My 1st Art Society Project

Christy Tomlinson has been an inspiration that got me started playing in Mixed-Media, so when she posted that she was creating the Art Society, I was not able to resist.... So, what is the Art Society? It's a once a month Mixed-Media craft project that is taught online by Christy Tomlinson. Here is my first canevas using Christy's directions. I went with the Black background and really am pleased with the results. Hope you like it !

Art Jounal Fun - Scrap et Cie Qc

Un nouveau Joujou... des crayons encre de Derwent. Pour la chronique en français, je vous invite d'aller faire un tour sur le site de Scrap et Cie Qc   A new toy, my Ink crayons by Derwent. The inktense crayons are really fun to play with, I Love the intenstity of the colors.   The Inktense pencils come in a variety of kit sizes or you can buy them individually. There are 72 colors in total.  

  To start, I gessoed my page, then with my crayon, I drew a patern. You make the lines fairly thick to ensure you have enough ink on your page. They feel like regular crayons, but once diluted they become ink and not watercolor.  

  Once your drawing is done, you take a wet paint brush and start pulling the ink from outside toward the Inside. You get a nice color wash effect. Once dry, the colour is permanent and can be worked over with other media.  I did find that on a gesso finish, if i added more water, it reactivated the ink. I would recommend avoiding adding extra water if you want to keep the product at the finish you desire. Also, note that the colors can be mixed or blended together like watercolors.  

I found that it was hard to doodle with my white Uni-ball Signo pen on this page. This was a surprise since the page is supposed to be dried ink, so I was not expecting this to not work well. My black Martha Stewart Calligraphy pen pigment ink worked perfectly, so I decided to doodle with that pen and also add my journaling.

 

Once my doodling was completed, I wanted to add dimension and shine. I used my pearl pens to add dimention dots and Distress Glitter with glossy accents to add some shiny outlines to my turquoise lines. I finished by added some white to my lettering with my Uni-Ball Signo pen. On the black Ink, my white pen worked perfectly.

I added some touches of white gesso at the end and I was really pleased to see that it did not reactivate the ink even though gesso is waterbased. This confirms that you can add-on any new medium to this background.  Here is the finished result:

 

 

As with all water-soluble pencils, you can put a wet brush onto an Inktense pencil  to pick up some ink and then brush this onto paper. It works very well when you want to add highlights to a project or if you want to color a stamped image.
 

The Color Run

  Ça y est, le grand saut est pris, mon engagement est fait et je me suis inscrite pour mon premier          5 KM... Je dois vous avouer que non seulement j'ai plein de poids à perdre, mais la course est un défi que je n'ai jamais été en mesure de relevé. Historiquement j'ai toujours de problèmes dans ma respiration.  Tout un défi et je m'y commet de le relevé. Je vais être avec des copines qui vont me botter le cul si je m'y rends pas... La gagne de la Factory va me tenir au pas...   It's done, I am registered for my very first 5KM run... I have to say that not only do I have weight to lose, but running has never been my strong suite. I have never been able to master the proper breathing required for running... so now motivated ans with my friends that will kick my but if I drop out... I have all the motivation to get started ..

Mes Résolutions 2014...

2014, et comme chaque année, il est temps pour les  résolutions. Chaque année, on se commet de suivre nos résolutions et j’avoue que l’an dernier ne fut pas mon cas. J’avoue que je laisse la vie prendre le dessus et j’ai souvent l’impression de suivre le cours de celle-ci plutôt que de la diriger. Dans les 2 dernières années, ma santé physique prend le coup avec des multitudes de malaises. Mes souhaits pour 2014… 1-Exercice : Une fois pour toutes, on se remet en forme. J’ai besoin de perdre 25 lbs au minimum et je me commets de faire tout en mon pouvoir pour atteindre cet objectif. Afin de  perdre ce 25 lbs, je commets 3 jours de gym par semaine, 2 sorties d’activités dehors par semaine ainsi que le maintien d’un menu de mes aliments. Je me commets de venir vous donner des mis-à-jours sur mon blog et comme objectif, si j’atteints plus que mes 25 lbs en 2013, je me gâte en m’offrant une fin de semaine créative chez Donna Downey en 2014.   2-Économiser : Pour celles qui me connaissent, vous s’avez que je suis acheteuse assez compulsive pour les produits de Scrapbooking. Ma salle déborde de produits qui dorment sur mes tablettes. Je me commets de minimiser mes achats et de me fixer un budget Scrap une fois pour toute, car je sais que je ne peux pas résister à certaines nouveautés du CHA c’est certain.   3- Profiter du temps avec les gens que j’aime : Les dernières années, j’ai perdu mon père, des amis et j’ai eu des amis qui ont combattu le cancer. Ce que j’ai appris ces dernières années c’est que la vie passe trop vite. Il faut profiter des gens qu’on aime pendants qu’on les a avec nous. Je suis chanceuse d’avoir autant d’amour dans ma vie et si je suis chanceuse, je serai en mesure de profiter de pleins de bons moments avec ma petite famille…        

 

Art Journal class with Cathy Bluteau

A few weeks ago, during an Art Journal class, we had the pleasure to be tought by Cathy Bluteau. What can I say other than it was a fabulous class and we had lots of fun.   I admire Cathy, this year she has decided to take a year off and concentrate on her craft. She is from Montréal and will be teaching classes in the area. If you are far away, you can get one of her online classes.
